SPECIAL FEATURES
St John’s Dog Therapy– Shelby is a beautiful golden retriever who comes to our Library one morning a week. She curls up in her doggie bed and selected junior children come and read to her. She is an avid listener and enjoys all the children and the fuss they make of her.
Life Education Trust - Life Education Trust have a large truck that travels around schools offering health and wellbeing programmes on a class-by-class basis. Harold the Giraffe is the mascot the children associate with this programme.
Kiwi Competitions – Kiwi Competitions is where parents can enter their children in reading and/or writing exams that are set nationally through the University of Canterbury. Children can compete with their peers throughout New Zealand. These exams are optional and there is a fee involved.
Counsellor – We occasionally employ a counsellor for students in need. This is a limited services and children are selected on need.
Perceptual Motor Programme (PMP) - We offer a PMP programme to all our new entrant student. The programme is designed to enhance balance, coordination and develop large and fine motor skills.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) – ESOL is a programme that we offer to students that require support with English as a second language.
Fitness Track – We have had a fitness track installed around our back field. All students are encouraged to run as often as possible to increase or maintain a good level of fitness.
Fitness Trail - We have also installed a fitness trail which enhances the running track by providing obstacles and activities to increase heart rate and fitness.
Canteen – The PTA offer a canteen service to the students. They can have heatups any day of the week for a minimal cost. On Fridays they offer a menu where food can be purchased, and it is delivered to the student’s room. The menu is available of School Stream and can be ordered through the app and paid for with a credit card. School Stream orders close at 3pm on Thursdays. Money and an order can still be sent in on Friday mornings.
Library - Our Library is an extremely well-resourced facility. Children can utitise the library during their lunch hours. Classes visit at least once a week.
Amenities – All our classroom and corridors have been revamped over several years with the remodelled admin area being the latest renovation. We have had the hall floor resurfaced and the hall entrance spruced up.
Playgrounds – Our playgrounds offer our students areas to play that encourage imagination, dexterity and bonding. The three playgrounds are catered for each syndicate level and students are encouraged to play on their respective apparatus. Each apparatus have multiple activities and caters for different level of confidence.
Sports Facilitator – Donovan Primary is very fortunate to employ to services of a Sports Facilitator. The role involves collating and registering sports teams, running practices and training sessions during school time and ensuring our students feel comfortable playing their chosen sport.
Ruru Satellite – We currently have a satellite class from Ruru Specialist School. They are part of our extended Donovan whanau.
